The Eastern Regional Police Command has appealed to journalists to exercise caution and responsibility in reporting on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Primaries, scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.

The appeal was made by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Owusu-Bempah.

Addressing journalists, DCOP Owusu-Bempah emphasized the crucial role that the media plays in disseminating information to the public, and urged them to cross-check facts before airing them on their media platforms.

“Every piece of information you feed the public is very crucial, and it’s imperative that you ensure its accuracy to prevent fear and panic,” he said. “We urge you to work with us to ensure a smooth and successful election, and to help maintain the peace that Ghana has enjoyed over the years.”

DCOP Owusu-Bempah also warned against any attempts to disrupt the electoral process, stating that the police would not hesitate to take action against anyone found flaming violence or creating scenes at polling centers.

“We have enough police officers to deal with anyone who tries to disrupt the peace,” he said. “If anyone misbehaves and is arrested, they will be detained until the exercise is over.”
