Cocoa farmers, particularly women, in Awutu Senya West Constituency have urged the government to provide support to boost cocoa production. They cited the high cost of farm inputs, especially agrochemicals for spraying cocoa trees, as a major barrier to maintaining healthy farms and achieving optimal yields.
The appeal was made during an event where 40,000 cocoa seedlings were distributed to farmers across cocoa-growing communities in the constituency. The farmers emphasized that cocoa farming is their primary source of income, critical for supporting their families and funding their children’s education.
The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, also the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, joined Ghana Cocoa Board officials at the event. She announced that the Board provided 30,000 seedlings, with her personally contributing an additional 10,000. “This is just the start,” she said. “We aim to distribute even more next year to expand cocoa farming in the constituency.”
Beyond agriculture, the MP visited Sakwakwa Basic, Nyakokwa Basic, and Kofi Ansah Basic schools, distributing nearly 200 school uniforms to needy students. She also committed to renovating dilapidated school buildings to elevate educational standards in Awutu Senya West.
