Baba Yara Stadium Pitch not up to international standards-C.K Akunnor

Coach for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, C.K. Akunnor, has expressed his disappointment in the pitch of the Baba Yara Stadium, stating that it is not up to international standards

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is currently participating in the CAF Confederation cup and the quality of the pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium has often been questioned whenever the team plays it’s home matches.

Some have attributed the teams away good performance to the quality of the pitch the players play on when the team travels.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’, coach for Asante Kotoko, Charles Kwablan Akunnor, described the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as below international standards but was quick to add that it had no impact on the teams home performance as it is being speculated.

“The pitch at the Baba Yara stadium is not at the level of international standards. The pitch needs a lot of improvement because we need it for National games too. I won’t say the pitch has any negative effect on our performance,” He said.

Asante Kotoko recorded their first victory in the group stage of the CAF Confederation cup last Wednesday when they defeated Zesco United Of Zambia 2-1.

Their next game will be away at Zambia against Nkanna FC on Sunday 24th February.
