Election observers and security analysts have expressed concern about the fragile security situation in Bawku as Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections.

Adib Saani, a Security Analyst has highlighted the need for urgent and sustained measures to ensure a safe environment for voters, election officials, and observers.
He stressed that despite the absence of active fighting at present, the precarious peace in Bawku necessitates strategic engagement with local stakeholders.
According to him, efforts must focus on finding long-term solutions to the underlying conflicts that have historically destabilized and urged authorities to engage combatants and other stakeholders to foster a peaceful atmosphere conducive to elections. Such actions are deemed critical not only for maintaining security but also for upholding the democratic rights of the people of Bawku.
He said failure to address the situation could result in the disenfranchisement of citizens in the area, depriving them of their constitutional right to vote and leaving them without proper representation in governance. The implications of this scenario could have far-reaching consequences, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Bawku ahead of the elections.
