Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized that the Akufo-Addo government has fulfilled 72 per cent of its campaign promises contrary to IMANI Africa’s 48 per cent overall assessment score.

According the Vice President, government’s records show that the Akufo-Addo administration has delivered on more than half of the promises it made to Ghanaians, assuring that the data will be made public for Ghanaians to judge.

He emphasized that the NPP’s promises to Ghanaians were hinged on three core things; stabilise the economy, reduce poverty, and transform the economy into a prosperous one, all of which, he said, have been well executed.

Speaking at the NPP National Delegates Conference, Dr Bawumia said the NPP government inherited a government that could not pay its bills, but has transformed it into the fastest growing economy in the world within three years in office.

“We told the people of Ghana that we are are going to do three core things. We are going to stabilize the economy, reduce the suffering of our people, and transform this economy into a modern and prosperous economy.

This was our contract with the people of Ghana. Ladies and gentlemen, what a difference three years of good effective leadership can make in a country. Because after three years, we can say without any shadow of doubt that we have fulfilled at least 72% of the promises that we made to the people of Ghana,” he said.

“We have either delivered completely or we are delivering on 72% and we are going to put the data out so that everyone will go promise by promise and see whether we are delivering or we have delivered. We will put the data out because we have done the work,” he added.

IMANI Ghana in its report titled ‘2019 iMANIFESTO’ released on Wednesday December 11, 2019 scored the Akufo-Addo Government 48.78 per cent with respect to the delivery of the NPP’s manifesto promises.

The report further suggested that 51.22 per cent of the promises made by the Akufo-Addo administration had either not been touched at all or given very little attention.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in an encounter with the press last week, challenged the accuracy of the report, stressing that government’s own evaluation and assessments shows that his government has fulfilled about 72% of the promises it made to Ghanaians.

While reiterating the President’s assessment, Dr Bawumia maintained that the country’s currency is performing better as compared to previous governments.

He added that the government has restored economic growth while interest rate has also declined.

“Ghana today is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world for two years in a row. Agricultural growth is increasing by 8.4%, industry growth has moved from negative to positive, inflation is on the decline, about half of what it was when we came into office, interest rates are on the decline,” he noted.

More than 6,000 delegates from across the 16 regions participated in the conference which was held at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

The platform allowed for deliberations and resolutions and other matters of the party’s interest ahead of next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
