On Friday, November 22, 2024, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia will commission two major projects in Walewale, North East Region: the Walewale Watermelon Factory and a new worship center for Islamic devotees.

The Walewale Watermelon Factory, part of the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative, is a project Dr. Bawumia originally inaugurated in 2019.

Operated by the Ghanaian-owned Champion Foods and Beverages Limited, the factory is expected to process approximately 10 metric tonnes of watermelons daily into juice and other beverages when fully operational.

This development aims to provide significant employment opportunities for residents of the watermelon-producing town and reduce post-harvest losses.

Dr. Bawumia will also officially open the newly constructed Walewale Central Mosque, a project he personally facilitated.

The mosque features gender-specific prayer spaces and offices, addressing the growing needs of the local Muslim community.

The commissioning coincides with Friday Jummah prayers and will be attended by traditional rulers, imams, and worshippers from Walewale and its surrounding areas, adding to the occasion’s significance.
