Ghana has welcomed the long-awaited fleet of electric buses, a project championed by Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

This arrival represents a major step forward in the nation’s commitment to eco-friendly public transportation.

The new electric buses are a key element in the government’s comprehensive strategy to cut carbon emissions and boost sustainable energy solutions in the transport sector.

Through this initiative, Ghana aims to join the global movement in combating climate change by integrating electric vehicles into its public transport system.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s introduction of electric buses aims to modernize Ghana’s public transportation system and improve urban air quality.

These buses, built by top manufacturers, feature advanced technology for enhanced efficiency, comfort, and safety. Initially, they will operate in major cities like Accra and Kumasi, where pollution from fossil-fuel vehicles is most significant.

The initiative is expected to inspire private transport operators to adopt greener practices, with plans underway to set up charging stations across the country to support the electric bus network.

Some Ghanaians have welcomed the project, hopeful it will address key challenges in the public transport system and reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel, potentially lowering transportation costs in the long run.
