Editor for the Overseer Newspaper, Bright Asadu, has described as unfortunate the comments made by Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia, during a press engagement Sunday, August 25, 2024, justified his inability to fulfill certain promises and implement key tax reforms, such as the tax amnesty, import duties, and the flat tax rate, by stating that he is not in full control as Vice President.

Dr. Bawumia questioned what he would do if he were to achieve everything now, before even assuming the office as President.

Speaking in an interview with Kwadwo Safah-Danquah on the Happy Morning Show on Monday, August 26, 2024, Mr. Asadu criticized the program, noting that it began more like a rally than a press engagement.

He pointed out that much of Dr. Bawumia’s address focused on former President Mahama, repeatedly comparing his record with Mahama’s.

Mr. Asadu argued that if Ghanaians were satisfied with Mahama’s governance in 2016, they would not have voted him out in favor of the NPP.

He added that Dr. Bawumia’s comments suggest that he is on the same level as Mahama, whom he previously criticized for inaction, thereby diminishing the credibility of his current promises.
