Junior High School students across the country are writing their final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Ghana has announced that a total of 603,328 candidates have registered to sit for this year’s BECE.
The figure includes 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools across the country.
WAEC also confirmed that 1,661 private candidates, comprising 858 males and 803 females, will participate in the examination this year.
This number represents a 19.49% increase over the 2024 private candidate entry of 1,390.
The examination will be conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with an additional 14 centres—mainly in regional capitals—dedicated to private candidates.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Ernest Davies, has assured the public that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and successful examination process.
The examination is expected to end Wednesday June 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has extended its support to candidates.
