Bechem United to boycott FA Cup competition

President of Bechem United Kingsley Owusu Achiaw has disclosed to Happyghana.com that his outfit will not honour their MTN FA Cup Round of 64 tie against AshantiGold.
The Hunters, who were drawn against the Miners in the FA Cup competition, have threatened to pull out from the competition after suspecting foul play in the balloting process.
Stating their grievances on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, bankroller of the club, Kingsley Achiaw expressed his displeasure following his side’s draw against AshantiGold – claiming that no cup competition in the world pits two big sides against each other in the first stage.
The soft-spoken Bechem United capo further indicated that the rules of the competition in the early rounds states clearly that, clubs cannot be paired against clubs from the same region.
However, Bechem United and AshantiGold do not share the same regional balance hence there is a clear machination from the organizers to boot them out of the competition in the first round.
“The FA Cup committee didn’t ballot. They sat and decided who plays who .They did the fixtures with malice. We are the only premier league club picked to play another premier league club. They should explain to us how they came by such a draw. I am the president of the club and I am saying on authority that we won’t play,” Achiaw fumed on Happy FM
He alleged that the FA Cip committee chairman Kurt Okraku and the Executive committee at the football association are against his side and hence have always plotted doom for them.
“Someone wants Bechem United out of the competition. How come Dreams FC sit at home and play against a lower tier team while he pairs Bechem United with another premier league side? There is no fairness”
“If they’re talking about proximity, AshantiGold and Bechem United should not be paired against each other. We should have been paired against a Division one club from the Brong Ahafo region”, he concluded.
