Cabinet’s crunch meeting on the economy a joke – David Tamakloe

The Editor of the online news portal, Whatsapp News, David Tamakloe argues the government didn’t have to hold a crunch meeting to address the current economic situation facing the country.

David Tamakloe stated that the officials present at the crunch meeting are the same people mandated to manage the country’s economy. “When I heard of this crunch meeting my first question was is this necessary? They are the same people who have been mandated to manage the economy. They are the same people who constitute the economic management team, the cabinet and some of them are also representatives of the government.

So I was wondering why these same people will gather at Peduase lodge to find a solution to the country’s economic hardships and say this is the biggest news we must hear. I think it is a joke and I felt it was one of the social media jokes when I heard of it,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

According to him, it is wrong to blame Vice President, Dr Bawumia for the failure of the government. “I don’t think Dr Bawumia has failed. It is the entire gov’t that has failed. The cabinet has failed so far as I am concerned. We are blaming the hike in fuel prices on the Russian-Ukraine war but this was going on long before that. The gov’t has simply failed us.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo chaired a three-day crunch meeting to address the recent economic challenges confronting the nation.

The meeting stemmed from the continuous depreciation of the cedi and the recent increments in fuel prices stemming from global pressures.

The deliberations, which started Friday at the Peduase Lodge and ended on Sunday, March 20, 2022, saw the government reopening land borders and refusing to go to the IMF for a bailout.
