The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is scheduled to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service today, May 26, 2025.

This follows an attempted arrest at his residence on May 23 by a joint team of National Security operatives and police officers.

The operation, which was met with strong resistance from NPP supporters, saw protesters gather outside his home in defiance of the security presence.

The reasons behind the security action remain unknown.

However, Chairman Wontumi has assured authorities that he will honour their request and present himself to the CID.

His lawyer, Kwame Adom Appiah, confirmed their readiness to cooperate with the police, emphasizing that Wontumi is a law-abiding citizen with substantial investments in Ghana.

“We are practising democracy. Wontumi is not someone who will evade scrutiny or flee. He will be available whenever required. We will honour today’s invitation,” he stated.

He further stressed their confidence, saying, “We have done nothing criminal, so we are not afraid to meet with the authorities.”
