Charles Bissue breaks silence on OSP prosecution over corruption allegations

Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles  Bissue, has issued a public response following the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) decision to initiate legal action against him and Mr. Andy Thomas Owusu.
In a press statement released on April 29, 2025, Mr. Bissue confirmed that the OSP has filed a writ to prosecute them over alleged corruption and misuse of public office. The charges stem from the long-standing “Galamsey Fraud” scandal, which was first brought to national attention in the 2019 Tiger Eye P.I. undercover documentary.
Mr. Bissue strongly denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as “baseless,” and asserting that he has always acted in full compliance with Ghana’s legal and ethical standards.
Welcoming the move to finally proceed with the case after more than five years, Mr. Bissue called on the OSP to ensure full transparency by submitting the unedited version of the documentary video to the court. He emphasized that Ghanaians deserve access to the complete truth, free from “distortion or misdirection by external narratives or selective interpretations.”
Highlighting the political shift since his tenure in office, Mr. Bissue noted the importance of impartiality in judicial proceedings, stating: “The timing of this prosecution, occurring under a different government than the one in which I previously served, shows the importance of impartial judicial proceedings.”
He called on the public to refrain from premature judgments and to allow the legal process to run its course, pledging full cooperation with the proceedings.
