A chartered economist Emmanuel Amoah Darko has called on the government to put measures in place to widen the tax net to boost developments in the country.
He suggested for the government to be able to widen the tax net it must build the institutional capacity of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
According to him, the government must also consolidate the operations of the GRA for it to drive the process for widening of the tax net in the country.
He said one of the worrying developments in the country is tax compliance because many people do not pay the right taxes in the country.
Mr. Amoah Darko made this suggestion on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show on Accra- based Happy FM on the budget delivered by the Finance minister to Parliament yesterday.
‘It is worrying to read from the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) report that Ghana imports 2.2 billion Dollars worth of over food annually’ he said.
He said these are draw backs on the growth of the economy .
He said by so doing the government will be able rope inn more tax payers to boost its revenue mobilization drive in the country.
