Security Analyst, Paul Boateng has cautioned that if the increasing cases of child beggars are not checked, the country will have a surge in crime in the next couple of years.

According to him these children who have received little to no education will grow up and have difficulty in finding decent employment and because they are also exposed to the the wrong crowd, they might end up picking up arms just so they can survive.

“These street children can only beg till they are about 16 years. At that age they see and desire the finer things of life and because they’ve had no basic education, it is difficult to find decent employment. They then begin attacking motorists for their phones and other valuables”, he said.

Paul motioned that with their ‘future’ involvement in crime, these children are a threat to national security and must be dealt with as soon as possible. “If that is not done, they will end up in gangs and that will affect the country”.

On his authority, most of these kids are undocumented aliens who found their way into the country through unapproved routes. “These children are brought from the Sahel regions and just because our borders are porous, they keep increasing”.

Paul Boateng mentioned this in an interview on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy98.9FM.

He advised the government to tighten its border security to prevent the influx of foreigners and possible criminals into the country.
