President of Techiman City Football Club, Charles Kwadwo Ntim, popularly known as ‘Micky Charles’, has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to go for a relief fund to bail out the clubs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to him, most Ghanaian clubs are on the verge of collapse due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic which has affected clubs financially.

The 2019/20 football season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The suspension has blocked and cut off financial streams for the clubs which used to be the gate proceeds from league games.

Micky Charles in an interview on Ghana’s number one Sports Station with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports, on Happy 98.9FM, said the FA must secure a relief fund to help clubs from collapsing.

“We propose to the GFA to go for a loan from the banks for the clubs. We need to take care of the players because If there are no players then it means there are no clubs then FA to CAF”, he said.

“Where the clubs are lying now is at the emergency ward. They have to find money for the clubs. If they are expecting money from FIFA to be shared for the clubs then they should give what they will receive first from FIFA to the clubs or loan some money from government from the Covid-19 stimulus fund to be given to the clubs”, he added.

He is also calling for the current season to be cancelled as there is no clear path when football will resume.
