The National Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG), William Osei, popularly known as Paa Willie, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to set aside a special day to celebrate drivers for their contribution to national development.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Antwi Boasiako on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Kaseɛbɔ, Paa Willie stressed that drivers play a critical role in the country’s socio-economic growth, yet their efforts often go unrecognized.

He noted that unlike farmers who are honoured annually on the first Friday of December during National Farmers Day, drivers have no official platform acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

According to him, establishing a National Drivers Day would not only celebrate the men and women who keep the nation moving but also motivate them to uphold professionalism, discipline and excellence in their work.

Paa Willie further revealed that during President Mahama’s 2024 campaign, the association appealed for the institution of such a day, and the then-candidate reportedly pledged to consider it when elected.

He therefore called on the President to honour that commitment by instituting a National Drivers Day to properly recognize and reward deserving drivers across the country.
