Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Alex Mensah has voiced concerns over the unusual jubilation among police officers following the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

According to him, leadership changes in the police service are common, the celebratory reactions this time are unprecedented and may hint at dissatisfaction with the previous leadership.

COP Mensah highlighted that during past transitions, such as when President Nana Akufo-Addo assumed office and appointed new IGPs, there were no such public displays of celebration.

He, however, questioned why officers at the National Headquarters and various stations were openly jubilant, suggesting it reflects what they endured under the previous administration.

Despite his disapproval of the celebrations, COP Mensah expressed optimism about the new IGP’s potential to bring positive reforms, emphasizing the need for a leader who listens and makes the right decisions.

Interestingly, COP Mensah himself has faced allegations of undermining the former IGP, leading to a parliamentary probe into an alleged plot to remove him from office.
