Ghana has donated engineering equipment and supplies to the Jamaican Defence Force to support the ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
The equipment includes machinery and materials to aid in rebuilding homes and infrastructure damaged by the hurricane.
The donation reflects Ghana’s commitment to international solidarity and South-South cooperation, highlighting the country’s growing role in international disaster response and Afro-Caribbean solidarity.
A 54-member Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team has been working alongside the Jamaican Defence Force since the hurricane struck in October 2025, causing an estimated $8 billion to $15 billion in damages and affecting over 626,000 people.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized Ghana’s dedication to supporting Jamaica during this challenging time.
The Jamaican government has welcomed the support, citing the importance of international cooperation in overcoming the devastating impact of natural disasters.
