Happy FM, the pacesetter in sports in Ghana is set to hold the third edition of the knowledge-sharing forum titled ‘The effect of COVID-19 on football: The perspectives of Ghanaian coaches’.

‘The effect of COVID-19 on football: The perspectives of Ghanaian coaches’ which will be held via zoom, seeks to bring together prominent coaches in the country to discuss the challenges they are facing as coaches due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the subsequent ban on sports activities including football.

The forum will be moderated by Happy FM’s Ohene Bampoe Brenya and will be carried live on Happy FM, e.TV Ghana, GTV Sports+ and on all GMABC platforms on social media.
The panel discussions which will cover topics like the potential long-term impact on sports and professional coaching activities in Ghana, challenges for coaching in Ghana, the role of sports in our shared recovery among others is on Thursday, June 4 from 9:00am to 11:00am.

The distinguished coaches on the panel are Charles Kwabla Akonnor a former Ghanaian international footballer who is the current manager of the Ghana national team. He has played as a versatile midfielder, mostly in Germany. He also captained the Black Stars and German club Wolfsburg.

Mercy Tagoe, is a former player, referee and now coach. She belongs to the rare league of persons to have had a taste of almost all the facets of football. An avid sportswoman, she played football to the highest level capping it with an appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1999 in the USA. After blowing her whistle for the last time in 2012, she explored her versatility yet again, making coaching her next destination. Currently, she is the head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s national team. She is also a Senior Officer with the Ghana National Fire Service.

Maxwell Konadu is a retired Ghana international football player. Who was the caretaker coach of the Ghana national football team, the manager of the Ghana national under-23 football team, and current coach of Asante Kotoko. Konadu was a member of the Men’s National Team which won the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He also won gold as assistant coach of Ghana’s Men’s Olympic Team at the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011.

Edward Nii Odoom is the head coach of the oldest existing football club in Ghana, Accra Hearts of Oak. The former Young Ambassadors, Tema Youth and Real Sportive coach is highly regarded as one of the greatest coaches for juvenile football in the country.
He also discovered players like Yahaya Mohammed, Stephen Adams, Mathew Amoah etc.

Paa Kwasi Fabian is the head coach of Ghana Premier League (GPL) table leaders and defending champions of GPL, Aduana Stars.
Fabian has vast experience in the local football having coached Hearts of Oak, Hearts of Lions, Asante Kotoko and recently Inter Allies. He has also handled the Ghana U17 team and the youth teams of Uganda.

Explaining the objective of organising these forums, Programmes Manager of Happy FM, Emmanuel Akrumah said: ‘’The non-stop sports entertainment we’ve come to expect has come to a halt. The first edition of the forum focused on sports in general, the second edition tackled football from the perspectives of the club owners, which also considered new technologies and channels to help engage fans during suspended or modified league operations.
Coaches are an integral part of sports in general and football in particular, we want to find out the impact of COVID-19 on coaching. What are their plans for post-COVID-19 coaching among others’’ he said.
