Residents of Kumasi have expressed their shock at the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo following the lifting of the 3-week partial lockdown.

The lockdown was part of measures to help fight the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.

Prior to his 7th address to the nation on COVID-19 updates, some Ghanaians speculated that the President will extend the lockdown for another couple of weeks but were quite puzzled when he did not.

The Ashanti Regional Correspondent of Happy98.9FM, Kwame Adumata giving a situational report on the region post the President lifting the lockdown on the Happy Morning Show revealed that people in the region were quite confused about the President’s recent directive.

“From engaging with some people here, the question which runs through is, has the President lifted the lockdown because the Ministry of Health (MoH) has found a cure to the coronavirus?” he noted.

Below are some of the questions posed to Kwame by people in the region;

“We are quite confused here and we need clarification on something. Has the gov’t found a cure to the virus? We know the lockdown was for our safety so the President lifting it means there is good news or ?” a resident known as kofi Asamoah asked him.

Afia Yamoah also asked, “We are supposed to be happy and go about our normal duties but we don’t feel that way. The President lifting the lockdown should mean that progress has been made towards finding a cure to the coronavirus. If the MoH has not discovered a cure then why has the lockdown been lifted?” she asked.

According to Kwame Adumata, though some people are elated that the lockdown has been lifted, some are also skeptical about the entire situation and are being extra precautious to avoid contracting the virus.

After 3 weeks of putting Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and Kasoa under lockdown, the President Akufo-Addo has lifted the lockdown whilst insisting Ghanaians still regard directives that will help control the spread of the pandemic.
