Coronavirus Outbreak: Makers Chapel supports less privileged with food van as Ghana goes on lockdown

The Maker’s House Chapel International, headed by Dr. Michael Boadi Nyamekye has started a humanitarian donation for the needy and destitute in the country, as Ghana goes under strict restrictions to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Dr. Nyamekye, the project forms part of the support activities of the church to make sure everyone lives through the 14day lockdown directive issued by the President.

Speaking in an interview on Happy98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben, the Founder and General Overseer of the church said, “When the lockdown was announced, we thought of how we could help the less privileged who can’t afford the basic neccessities of life to survive a 14day lockdown. We had no money. We are building our church but I told the team the building can wait, so we could use the money for this project. What will be the essence of the church building if after completion, the people meant to be in the church are dead?”

On his authority the church will be giving out food items to less privileged for the duration of the lockdown.”We have decided this is going to continue for the entire lockdown period. And if by virtue of an executive order of the President, the lockdown is extended, we can go back the drawing board to look at our approach,”he stated.

The man of God disclosed that some of the donations which really touched his heart were the deliveries the church made to a woman aged over 80 years and another aged over 70, who both live alone in stores and had no one to take care of them.

When asked if the project was being done elsewhere, he told host Afrifa Mensah that “we are only doing this project in Accra for now. We have no branch in Kumasi and Takoradi but we want to partner pastors who can replicate this in these regions on our behalf.

He noted that the church was not discriminatory in its aid but gave to all, regardless of your faith. The only criteria for the help was people who were genuinely needy.

The operation requires between 300-400 cedis to provide the needy with food items, water, antibacterial hand wash, sanitizers and other goddies.

Dr. Boadi Nyamekye revealed that their budget is not working because of the sudden hike in prices of goods and food items in the country. He appealed to Ghanaians to help if it was within their means. “If all Ghanaians will support us, we will be very happy. Dr Bawumia and his wife brought us 100bags of rice to support our work. I’ll be happy if the entire Ghana can help. Curently our support is from my family, friends and the church. We had to halt our church project to use the money for this humanitarian donation,” he said.

Touched by his good and selfless work, Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ host Afrifa Mensah and Producer, Kwame Frimpong joined forces and pledged 200 bags of water to support the project.
