MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has displayed that the most solemn and Holy activities in church can be done via a virtual community, regardless of the President’s ban on all gatherings, including church services.

In the church’s effort to keep the flock in step with the faith, and in remembrance of the body and blood of Jesus Christ that was broken and poured at the cross, they did not let the President’s directive disrupt their communion service.

Being led by the General Overseer and Founder of the Church, Dr. Mensa Otabil, the church was taken through an unconventional communion service. Members partaking in the service in their various homes had to improvise and use items readily available to them to represent the body and blood of Jesus.

The usual waiver and wine used for communion were substituted with bread, unsweetened cracker, wine or unsweetened fruit juice.

Lifting and blessing the communion in the sanctuary, Dr. Mensa Otabil sought for the protection and favor of God for all and sundry.

Speaking on the theme ‘A Table in the Presence of my Enemy’, Dr Mensa Otabil encouraged that, “in the midst of crisis there is always an opportunity. There’s something that God is doing in the midst of all happening around us for us to do better.
God will provide a way out for you, your family and for our nation.”

According to him, the way out of the coronavirus included social distancing, washing hands and avoiding people with suspicious cough.

He added that with the world suffering this pandemic, there is surely going to be an explosion in new ideas, science and technology that will make the world a better place.

Amidst the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Ghana, the President issued a directive suspending social gatherings including church services which is unprecedented.

Not wanting the directive to destroy the fellowship with the Lord, churches have resoterd to virtual church services to give hope to their congregation in these trying times.
