Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ashanti Region are taking steps to reverse approximately 580 names from the voters register in the Manhyia South constituency, following a court order.

This action comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency identified irregularities in the voters register during a voter transfer exercise and sought legal interpretation from the court.

The Kumasi Magistrate Court, presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkor, issued a ruling on Tuesday, directing the EC to return the affected voters to their original constituencies.

NPP Manhyia South Constituency Secretary, Alhaji Haruna Alhassan emphasized that the party would ensure the necessary follow-up to see that the ruling is properly implemented. He also urged other NPP strongholds to examine their registers for potential anomalies and seek appropriate redress.

The issue arose during the voter transfer process when the NPP in the Manhyia South constituency noticed irregularities in the transfers. Although they could not take action at the time due to legal limitations, further investigation during the exhibition of the voter register revealed abnormal transfers in about five or six polling stations out of the 107 in the constituency. One notable instance involved around 150 transfers to St. Louis College of Education.

Following five court appearances, the court ultimately ruled that 580 people who were transferred to Manhyia South should be reverted to their original voting constituencies. The NPP has committed to ensuring this directive is fully enforced.
