Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Alliance (GMA), Ernest Boateng has asserted that the dynamics in the events industry will change during and even after the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the recovery of the sector after the pandemic will give customers some form of power over events companies and this will translate to high levels of competition in the industry.
Speaking in a virtual discussion organised by Global Media Alliance (GMA) themed; ‘Impact of COVID-19 on the Events and Hospitality Industries’, Mr. Boateng said, “The recovery of the sector will be impacted in such a way that it will lead to competition.”
To him, for one to beat these high levels of competition, industry players have to be proactive and not wait for things to happen naturally.
He moved to advise businesses in the industry to begin looking at embracing different ideas and alternatives if they want to survive. “We should start looking at holding events virtually. If having them in person threatens the safety of people, we will do it virtually.”
The businessman acknowledged that regardless of it being a challenge to monetize digital events in Ghana, it is possible. “Those who can do this quickly will be the winners.”
He noted that as social beings, many Ghanaians still want to interact with people but advised all event companies to keep to COVID-19 etiquettes. “We will get there soon.”
