The Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Frederick Moore has disclosed that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a severe toll on the financial standing of the club.
According to him, the club has lost a substantial amount of its revenue projection for the year.
He made this disclosure in a special COVID-19 sports event on Happy 98.9FM with Ohene Brenya Bampoe dubbed; ‘Effects of COVID-19 on Football Clubs in Ghana.’ The sports administrator said, “we’ve lost about two-thirds of the revenue projection we made for this football season and it’s quite a scare.”
Fredrick Moore noted that a lot of sponsorship the club was also hoping to gain has not materialized because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This pointed to the fact that most individuals or businesses are not willing to invest in a venture that provides them with no returns.
On his authority, the COVID-19 pandemic had proved that indeed no football club can survive with internally generated funds and sponsorships only. “For ghana football to really do well and compete internationally, we need support from corporate Ghana and the government.”
The government of Ghana placed a ban on all social gatherings, including sporting activities after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the shores of Ghana.
This ban has taken a huge toll on the game we all love best as a country, football.
