COVID Trust Fund: Group’s petition to remove Abeiku Santana baseless - NDC

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication team, Kweku Owusu Banahene has described the petition by some NPP foot soldiers for the removal of Abeiku Santana as COVID-19 Trust Fund ambassador as baseless.

According to him, the Trust Fund was established for the benefit of all Ghanaians and as such he sees no wrong if Abeiku Santana, regardless of his political affiliation, has been appointed as the ambassador.

In a panel discussion with Happy FM’s Don Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he expressed: “Abeiku Santana is one single individual at Despite Media who brings ads to the media house. So, his boss, Ernest Ofori Sarpong, as a board member of the fund suggested that if they can tap into the influence of Abeiku Santana, it will greatly help the fund.

I want to ask that if people are beseeched to help with funds for the COVID-19 Trust Fund, are they asked about their party affiliation? So why can’t we use any Ghanaian as an ambassador unless the person is an NPP person?”.

He reminded the group of President Akufo-Addo’s inaugural speech this year, where the President stated that the voting pattern in the 2020 election confirms that Ghanaians want the NPP and the NDC to work together in unity.

“Why then can’t Abeiku Santana raise funds for the development of Ghana even if he is affiliated to the NDC”, he questioned.

Banahene rationalized that if for anything, Abeiku Santana has been appointed for his influence to attract funds from others.

A group calling itself the Alliance For Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) is demanding the immediate revocation of the appointment of popular radio show host Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, also known as ‘Abeiku Santana’, as an Ambassador of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund.

The group claims Abeiku Santana attempted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for the Mfantseman Constituency in 2016 and has been a known activist of the opposition party.
