The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has distanced itself from a petition reportedly submitted to Parliament seeking the removal of President John Dramani Mahama from office.
In a disclaimer issued and signed by the party’s Chairperson and Leader, Comrade Wing Commander Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, the CPP clarified that it had no knowledge or involvement in such a move.
According to the statement, the attention of the party was drawn to remarks made by its former flagbearer’s running mate in the 2024 Presidential Elections, who claimed on a television programme that he had petitioned Parliament to remove President Mahama from office.
“The Convention People’s Party states unequivocally that its Central Committee, the highest administrative organ of the Party, has not sanctioned such a move,” the statement read.
The CPP further cautioned that any attempts to associate the party with the said petition should be disregarded.
