The Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join hands in pushing for urgent reforms within the Electoral Commission (EC) to protect Ghana’s democratic integrity.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah who also serves as the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emphasized the need for bipartisan collaboration to address growing concerns about the credibility of the electoral process.
He accused the NPP of disregarding repeated warnings from the NDC about operational flaws within the EC ahead of the 2024 elections, warning that such negligence has contributed to the current erosion of public trust in the Commission.
“NPP: It’s not too late! Let’s work together to fix the broken Electoral Commission and save Ghana’s democracy! The NPP should have listened when we in the NDC raised several red flags about the Electoral Commission Ghana ahead of Elections 2024,” he stated.
Dr. Boamah’s remarks come in the wake of comments by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who announced the party’s decision to boycott an upcoming electoral rerun.
Mr. Frimpong accused the EC of flouting a court order and attempting to subvert the will of the electorate.
