The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency who doubles as the Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on trainee nurses and midwives to focus on securing permanent jobs rather than relying on unpaid allowances.

During a joint gathering with students from the Essiama Nursing and Midwifery Training College and Asanta SDA Nursing and Midwifery School in Essiama, he expressed concern about the government’s failure to fulfill its promises regarding allowance payments to trainee healthcare professionals.

He made these remarks as part of a campaign tour by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Tuesday.

He criticized the government, particularly Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for claiming that all arrears of allowances have been settled, asserting that this is far from the truth.

He warned the trainee nurses that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has devised a strategy to win their votes by sending mobile money just ahead of the elections. He urged the students not to be deceived by these tactics and encouraged them to accept any funds sent by the government but cast their votes for John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections.

The Deputy Minority Leader assured the students that the next NDC government has comprehensive plans to expand healthcare facilities nationwide and increase employment opportunities for nurses, doctors, and other health professionals. Additionally, he pledged to provide free internet connectivity at both nursing and midwifery training colleges within the Ellembelle Constituency.
