The final of the Brong Ahafo Region Football Association (BARFA) Division Two middle league between Nsuatre and Techiman Liberty on Wednesday, June 28 at the Debibi Presby Park ended abruptly.
According to the Brong Ahafo Division Two League Chairperson, Ababio Alexander, the keenly contested fixture came to an abrupt end when Nsuatre FC,who conceded a penalty in the 83rd minute to Techiman Liberty walked off the field to register their displeasure.
At the time the incident happened, the match was level at 2-2 with less than nine minutes to end proceedings. Liberty took an early lead before Nsuatre fought their way back into the game.
“The referees for the game, especially the linesman was running away from an angry crowd who were officials from Nsuatre FC who I believe were not pleased about the referees’ penalty call against them. Supporters of the club also after the incident started throwing stones onto the field which ended the game.” Ababio Alexander disclosed on Happy FM.
He stated that the Policemen on duty during the match managed to convince the referees and two teams to resume the match but they were prevented by hooligans who began throwing stones again onto the field.
“ I was almost attacked by a fan from Nsuatre who I was trying to convince to drop the stones so proceedings of the game could resume. I was verbally abused by some” he added.
Meanwhile, the Brong Ahafo Region Football Association is yet to release a statement on the disturbing situation.
