A Level 200 student of the African University College of Communications (AUCC), Aware Yaw Offei, has encouraged unemployed graduates and tertiary students not to relent in their efforts to find a job.

He said that despite the comments by the Finance Minister that the government’s payroll is full, he is optimistic that anyone who puts in effort in finding a job will become successful.

Yaw Offei, during an interview with Happy FM’s Don Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show expressed that as a student, he has developed certain skills that will prepare him for the job market and he advises everyone to do so.

“I believe I will be part of the percentage who will get a job even though the government’s payroll is full. I am optimistic that I will get a job. There are still different avenues that one can make money. Whatever I do, I make sure that I link it to my talent. Social media is more of a ready market. You just need a phone, data and ideas,” he said.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, has revealed that 60 percent of Ghana’s revenue is spent on salaries and remuneration for workers on the government’s payroll.

He described this situation as unsustainable.

Speaking at the Springboard Youth Dialogues, Accra (UPSA) on Friday, October 15, he said the government is structuring its budget to focus on how to support the youth of this country create their own jobs.

This, he said, will reduce the over-reliance on the government for jobs, a situation that will also ensure that the payroll is not overburdened.
