Deputy Director in charge of Starchy Staples at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, George Prah, has advised Ghanaians not to depend on the government for everything.

His comments follow the cost of farm produce amidst the cedi appreciation.

According to him, there are many ways Ghanaians can save and preserve food stuff in order for them not to go waste but they have chosen to wait on government for everything.

Speaking in an interview with Fati Shaibu- Ali on the Happy Morning Show on how some ideas can be implemented he said, “We have left everything for government forgetting that the government has a lot to handle and this is why we are behind”.

He noted that in order to solve this, the ministry of food and agriculture is open for collaborations especially for those in the private sector.

“We call it the Public Private Partnership(PPP). Here if there are any ideas the private sector can also bring on board to help they do so to lessen the burden on government” he said.

Mr. Prah revealed that so far, everyone who has gone into partnership with the government has ended up benefiting and advised for more to join in.

“Left to me alone, I’ll say the government is doing the best but we will also call upon the private sector to help. For instance, the feed Ghana program we recently launched, we called on the private sector and development partners and others whom we feel can help the agricultural sector to put the document together” he stated.

He believes doing this will help make the agricultural sector better rather than leaving everything for the government.
