Dormaa in the Bono Region, home to more than 500 registered poultry farms and a major supplier of nearly half of Ghana’s poultry, i facing a crippling egg glut. Farmers say crates of eggs are piling up with few buyers in sight.

Producers report plunging incomes, mounting debts, and losses that threaten the survival of many farms. With limited access to credit and shrinking markets, they are calling on government to step in with urgent support ranging from incentives and affordable financing to policies that open new local and international markets.

To ease the situation, the Dormaa Business Resource Centre, the Poultry Farmers Association, and the Municipal Assembly have set up a crisis clinic to explore immediate relief measures and long-term solutions.

Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive, Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, is championing an industrial revitalization drive. He is urging farmers to focus on exports and industrial applications of eggs rather than relying solely on household consumption.

He also made a national appeal, encouraging every Ghanaian to consume at least one egg a day not only to boost nutrition but also to support struggling local farmers.
