The minority leader Haruna Iddrisu has called on the president Nana Akuffo-Addo to intervene in the double salary allegation towards him and some of his colleagues in parliament.
According The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Haruna Iddrisu is afraid the matter may dent the reputation of Parliament if the criminal proceedings currently underway should continue. He said
“The Minority Leader has spoken to the president that some intervention must be done in order to save the image of Parliament,” he told Evans Mensah on Accra based radio station on Tuesday.
The Majority Leader said they had wanted to handle the matter on the quiet but some members of the Minority breached faith by going public with witch-hunting accusations.
Following the allegation of double salary, the Director General of police CID, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has written to the speaker of parliament to invoke the immunity the MPs’ enjoy under the constitution of Ghana, to allow them go through the investigations by the CID.
The Daily Guide Newspaper last week published a list of some current and former members of parliament who benefitted from double salary which is believed to have begun from 2012.
Some of the ex-government officials who doubled as MPs and Ministers admitted to collecting double salaries but they attributed it to a systematic failure.
