The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underscored the significance of the party’s National Thank You Tour, describing it as a vital initiative to foster unity among party members.

Speaking at the National Thank You Tour on Wednesday, April 23, at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Dr. Bawumia noted that this is not the first time the NPP has embarked on such a tour following an electoral defeat.

He emphasized that it has been a longstanding tradition for both parliamentary and presidential candidates to tour the country to express their gratitude to the people.

He referenced historical precedents, mentioning former leaders such as Adu Boahen and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who also undertook similar tours. Following in their footsteps, Dr. Bawumia explained that the delay in his own Thank You Tour was due to the party awaiting the report from the Professor Mike Oquaye Committee, which was tasked with analyzing the causes of the party’s loss and recommending the way forward.

Dr. Bawumia took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for selecting him as his running mate for four consecutive elections, a historic feat in Ghanaian politics. He also thanked him for the opportunity to serve as Vice President for two terms and for his unwavering support throughout the 2024 campaign.

He explained that the decision to commence the Thank You Tour at the party’s headquarters was to first acknowledge and appreciate the hardwork and dedication of party staff, who have been instrumental in the party’s activities.

Dr. Bawumia called on all NPP members and supporters to unite in purpose and work together as the party restructures in preparation for a victorious comeback in the 2028 elections.
