Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made his stance on the LGBTQI+ issue clear.

Addressing the gathered Muslim faithful in Kumasi during the Eid celebrations, Dr. Bawumia stated that as a Muslim, his views on the issue of LGBTQI+ “align with the position of [his] religious faith.”

Dr. Bawumia cited verses from the Holy Quran, including Quran Chapter 7 Verse 81 (Suratul Al-A’raf), which describes LGBTQI+ acts as transgressions beyond the bounds of nature.

He stated that his faith is strictly against the practice of homosexuality, with no room for compromise or interpretation.

The NPP presidential candidate also highlighted that all major religious traditions in Ghana, including Christianity and Islam, are opposed to the practice of homosexuality.

He vowed to stand against it as President, Insha Allah, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the values and beliefs of the Ghanaian people.

Dr. Bawumia’s comments come at a time when the issue of LGBTQI+ rights in Ghana has been a topic of intense debate and controversy. With his strong stance against the practice, Dr. Bawumia has made it clear where he stands on this issue, further defining his position on social and cultural values in Ghana.
