Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized that democracy and the rule of law are crucial for protecting individual freedoms, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth.

In a recent Facebook post, following his role as Special Guest at the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA) Annual Forum in Accra, he called on African leaders and governments to focus on empowering citizens through education, quality healthcare, and the promotion of free enterprise and individual liberties.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of digitalization for transparent and efficient governance, as well as the need for closer cooperation among nations.

He underscored that the connection between democracy, the rule of law, and economic development is fundamental as African countries work to strengthen democracy on the continent.

“Democracy and the rule of law foster an environment where individual freedoms are safeguarded, innovation thrives, and economic activities prosper,” he wrote.

I was Special Guest at the Democratic Union of Africa (DUA) Annual Forum held in Accra yesterday.

As African countries strive to entrench democracy on the continent it is essential to recognize the intrinsic link between democracy, rule of law and economic development. Democracy and the rule of law create an environment where individual freedoms are protected, innovation thrives and economic activities flourish.

I urged African leaders and governments to work towards citizen empowerment through education, quality healthcare for general well-being, promotion of free enterprise and individual liberties, digitalization for transparent and efficient governance and closer cooperation.

Together, we can make democracy the by-word in Africa
