The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has clarified that the official cost of a DV vehicle registration plate is GH¢417.25, following reports of widespread overpricing by intermediaries.
The clarification comes after complaints from vehicle owners that some middlemen, popularly known as “goro boys and girls,” are selling DV plates for between GH¢1,300 and GH¢1,500, causing public frustration.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, February 4, Mr. Kotey stated that the DVLA has restricted the issuance of DV plates solely to registered car dealerships and garages.
“The official price for a DV plate is GH¢417.25. Please note that the DVLA currently restricts issuance exclusively to registered car dealerships and garages,” he stated.
He explained that the restriction is part of measures to regulate the DV plate issuance process and curb unauthorised activities linked to the acquisition of the plates.
