Eastern Region NPP Bold Ladies Criticize 15 MPs Over Support for Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bold Ladies group in the Eastern Region has expressed strong disappointment with a group of 15 Members of Parliament (MPs) who recently declared their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a statement signed by coordinators Wilhemina Ayesu, Dora Quashie, and Elizabeth A. Atuobi, the group accused the MPs, led by Achiase MP Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, of prioritizing personal interests over the unity and progress of the party.

The statement described the actions of the MPs as “unfortunate and self-serving,” referencing comments made by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin in July 2024 that public trust in MPs was waning due to poor conduct.

According to the Bold Ladies, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Former Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi has been instrumental in supporting the party’s grassroots, particularly polling station executives, with financial contributions during the last general elections. They alleged that in some constituencies, funds provided by Dr. Acheampong to support campaign activities were diverted by certain MPs for personal use.

“As a group, we are disappointed in the MPs for thinking about themselves and not the party and call on them to refund the monies to the constituency party,” the statement read.

The group further commended Dr. Acheampong for what they described as his “truthfulness, honesty, transparency, and commitment to party unity,” while vowing to resist any attempts by MPs to undermine his efforts.

“They must be aware that we are many, and they are few. We shall fight for Dr. Bryan, and we shall fight for our party,” the statement concluded.
