The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will rerun the Ablekuma North Constituency Parliamentary Election in 19 selected polling stations on Friday, July 11, 2025, as part of efforts to resolve the long-standing electoral impasse in the constituency.

The decision follows a meeting held on Tuesday, July 1, between the EC and representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to EC, both parties maintained their earlier positions, the NDC called for a rerun in 37 polling stations, citing concerns over scanned pink sheets provided by the NPP, while the NPP insisted that results from three outstanding polling stations should be collated and a winner declared.

“The issue in contention has to do with the fact that 37 pink sheets used for collation were scanned copies provided by the NPP,” the EC explained.

The Commission clarified that while agents of both parties approved the scanned results, only 18 of the 37 polling stations had their results verified by the Presiding Officers.

As such, the EC will rerun the election in the remaining 19 polling stations where verification was not secured.

The EC has called on the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security to ensure a peaceful and transparent rerun.

The controversy stems from the December 7, 2024 General Election, during which political party supporters stormed the collation centre and destroyed several original pink sheets, prompting reliance on scanned copies.

The outcome of the rerun is expected to finally determine the parliamentary representative for Ablekuma North, a seat that has remained in limbo for months.
