Communications Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed has indicated that the Electoral Commission (EC) will execute its mandate to perfection and in a timely fashion in the December 7 elections.

According to him, the NPP trusts that regardless of the commission reverting to the manual process of transmitting results from all the collation centres to the national headquarters, the votes will reach the commission on time for counting and declaration.

To him, it will not take longer than two (2) days for the votes to reach the EC’s head office for counting and final declaration of the country’s new President.

Speaking to Happy 98.9 FM’s Sefa-Danquah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, Awal said, “I am only telling you I had issues with the manual system. I believed it’ll be impossible to transport the votes cast from some deep rural areas. That was my only fear and that has been allayed. The EC says they’ll use helicopters to transport these ballots to the head office on time”.

The Electoral Commission (EC) disclosed that it will revert to the manual process of transmitting results from all the collation centres to the national headquarters.

This implies that unlike the 2016 elections where the electronic system was used alongside the existing manual system to have parallel modes that transmitted results concurrently, there would be only a single mode of transmitting results this year.

This statement resulted in a faction of Ghanaians, especially, the opposition NDC disagreeing that a single mode of transmission should be done for the declaration of the election results this year.
