The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed the extensive power outage that occurred on June 26 to a severe rainstorm that hit parts of the Greater Accra Region.
The rainstorm caused significant damage to ECG’s distribution network, resulting in widespread power disruptions across several communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday June 26, ECG announced that engineers are working to repair the damage and restore power supply as soon as possible.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) wishes to inform our cherished customers that the heavy rainstorm that hit parts of the Greater Accra Region today (Thursday, 26th June, 2025) has caused outages within our network. ECG wishes to assure all affected customers that our Engineers are working assiduously to repair the faults and restore power supply parts of the statement explained.
On the evening of June 26, a powerful rainstorm swept through parts of the Greater Accra Region, unleashing strong winds and relentless rain that lasted for over two hours, affecting several areas.
