In response to mounting concerns over frequent power outages, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region is rolling out a 100-day maintenance exercise to stabilize electricity supply during the ongoing rainy season.

Scheduled to begin on Monday, May 26, the initiative aims to inspect, repair, and strengthen infrastructure to prevent service disruptions, which have often been triggered by minimal rainfall.

Speaking at a stakeholder meeting with the Ghana National Association of Garages in Ashanti West, ECG Ashanti West General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, explained the approach.

“We have instructed all our maintenance staff that they should be doing line inspections so that if there is any defect with any equipment that needs to be changed, we change it. We are doing what we call preventive maintenance”.

The move comes as businesses and residents struggle with unreliable power supply, particularly artisanal workers at Suame Magazine, a major industrial hub.

Some workers expressed frustration over ECG’s slow response to service requests, noting that delays severely impact productivity.

“When you visit the office with your concerns, the delays will compel you to use other means to get your issues addressed”.

Addressing these concerns, ECG assured that efforts are underway to reduce response time and improve service delivery as part of the maintenance initiative.
