The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a public warning against the illegal activities of some private electricians operating within its network.
In a notice released on Monday, May 26, the power distribution company expressed grave concern over unauthorized actions by these individuals, which it says are jeopardizing the safety and stability of the national power grid.
According to ECG, the private electricians have been illegally climbing ECG poles, using substandard fuses on transformers, and transferring customers from one phase to another without approval. These unauthorized interventions have reportedly led to numerous technical issues including power outages, low voltage, and damaged transformers.
“The actions of these electricians are illegal and often lead to outages, low voltage, power fluctuations and damaged transformers,” the statement read.
ECG is advising its customers and the general public to refrain from engaging the services of unlicensed electricians during power outages. Instead, customers are encouraged to report any outage or suspicious electrical activity through the company’s official communication channels.
Affected individuals can contact the ECG customer service center via 0302-611-611, visit the nearest ECG office, file a report using the ECG PowerApp, or reach out through social media at @ECGghOfficial on Facebook, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter).
The company emphasized that such collaboration from the public is crucial to ensuring efficient service delivery and maintaining the integrity of the electricity distribution system.
