The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a stern warning to headteachers who refuse admission to students duly placed in their schools or demand unapproved fees, stating that such actions will attract severe sanctions.

Speaking at the 32nd Annual Conference of Directors of Education in Sunyani, Bono Region, the Minister expressed serious concern over reports that some school heads were hindering the enrollment of first-year students and exploiting parents and guardians financially.

Mr. Iddrisu described these acts as unacceptable, stressing that they contradict the government’s commitment to providing free, fair, and quality education for all Ghanaian children. He emphasized that every student officially placed in a school through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) must be admitted without any discrimination or unauthorized financial demands.

Reiterating the Ministry’s commitment to upholding discipline, transparency, and fairness within the education sector, the Minister warned that any headteacher found engaging in such misconduct will face appropriate administrative and legal action.

He also urged Directors of Education nationwide to strengthen monitoring efforts and ensure full compliance with Ministry directives to facilitate a smooth and fair enrollment process for all first-year students.
