A cousin to President Akufo-Addo, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, says the President is more popular than the New Patriotic Party.
According to him, the results of the 2020 polls confirms his position.
“I think the easiest explanation one can give is that the president is popular and then if you amalgamate, the president is more popular than his party as it were or than his parliamentary candidates. It is pretty easy to say so,” he told an Accra-based radio station.
From the EC’s collated results of the 2020 polls, Mr Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,413 representing 51.59% of the total votes cast while his closest contender, John Mahama of the NDC also polled 6,214,889 which gives him 47.36% of the total votes cast.
Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has reiterated the claim by National Democratic Congress that the 2020 election was stolen for President Akufo-Addo by the Electoral Commission.
However, the EC has also dismissed reports which suggest the arrest of one of its officials at Somanya in the Eastern Region who is alleged to have reduced votes of the NDC presidential candidate by 3,000 in the area
The EC, in a statement, described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard the story. The fake news further goes ahead to claim that the said EC Official was arrested for reducing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate’s votes by 3,000. We wish to state that this is FALSE. The public is therefore urged to disregard this fake news.”
