The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested one Alex Cobbinah who posed as a soldier in a viral video, falsely claiming that President-elect John Dramani Mahama intended to dismiss all soldiers recruited through protocol arrangements.

In the video, Cobbinah was seen wearing a Ghana Navy vest and showcased military items while making what GAF described as deceptive and misleading statements.

Investigations revealed that Cobbinah had posted several videos on social media in which he donned military uniforms and pretended to be a member of the armed forces.

GAF in a statement revealed that the Military Police arrested him at his home in Madina Zongo Junction, Accra, and handed him over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and potential prosecution.

In a statement, GAF warned the public against engaging with intermediaries or agents who demand payment for enlistment into the Armed Forces. They urged individuals aware of such activities to report them to the nearest military base or police station, stressing that paying such agents makes one complicit in fraudulent practices.

GAF also reminded the public that unauthorized use of military uniforms or equipment is prohibited under the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967. They cautioned citizens to avoid such actions to prevent prosecution.
