A tragic road accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has claimed for lives with three others injured.

The collision occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025, near Akyem Asafo and involved two cargo trucks and a tipper truck.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident unfolded when a cargo truck carrying cocoa developed a mechanical fault along the highway.

Shortly after, another cargo truck crashed into the stalled vehicle, followed by a tipper truck transporting market women, which also collided with the wreckage.

The crash caused significant traffic congestion on the busy highway, prompting authorities to advise commuters to use alternative routes.

Travellers heading to Kumasi are urged to take the Kibi detour and those heading to Accra should use the Apedwa route.

Emergency response teams and law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation, ensuring traffic flow and assisting the victims.

The injured have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
