The Chairman for the Black Princesses management committee, Linford Asamoah, says the team is preparing to win the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Costa Rica.

The Black Princesses will be making their sixth appearance at the competition this year.

Ghana has been handed a tough draw as they face USA, Japan and The Netherlands in the group stage.
According to the GFA Executive Council member, preparations are underway to ensure the team progresses out of the group.

“We want to go to Costa Rica and break the jinx. Always when we qualify we are not able to progress out of the group stage”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports on Happy 98.9FM.

“Our group is the group of death because the teams are very strong countries as far as women’s football is concern. We also played with Zambia, Ethiopia and eliminated all of them in the qualifiers. This time around we have presented our program to the Executive Council. This week we will go to camp and also go on a training tour where we will play some international matches. This time we want to go far in the tournament even to the final”.

Linford Asamoah added that the technical team will widen its net to select players for the tournament.

“Any player who is Under 20 either in Ghana or abroad has the opportunity to play for the team. We even have some players who are Ghanaian of foreign descent and we will add them to the team. We will call 40 players to camp before we select the 26 players.

“We have proposed to go to training tour abroad but the officials are yet to approve it. The place we have selected is close to Costa Rica.
